25 of the Best Baby Beach Essentials that Families will Love

Baby Beach Day

Beach Days With Your Baby Should Be Fun! Being Prepared Is The Best Way To Ensure You Can Thoroughly Enjoy Your Day At The Beach, Or The Boat With Your Baby!

When it comes to a baby Beach Day, you don’t want to forget anything. After talking with a few other moms, I have compiled a list of 25 options into 8 categories that I believe would be beneficial to have for a baby beach day. Enjoy it! Along with this list, be sure to pack your DIAPER BAG.

DON’T FORGET:

  • small trash bag
  • baby wipes
  • extra water

Sun Protection

While at the beach, your baby is going to be exposed to the sun. Here are a few items that will protect your baby from UV rays, while also safe for the environment. I always look for sunscreens with 100% ZINC oxide for the most coverage. My favorite brands to use are… Two Peas, Babo Botanicals, Blue Lizard, Badger, Baby Bum, Aveeno Kids, and Alba Botanica.

baby sunscreen

Two-Peas sunscreen is a chemical-free and mineral-base.  It is thick, but it works for me and my baby.

This is a continuous sprayer, but it does not have any alcohol like the others. It’s great for reapplication.

baby sun hat

The best sun protection is covering your baby up as much as possible. Look for UPF & UV Ray sun protection.

Baby Beach Swimwear

Honestly, any bathing suit you decide to put your baby in should of course be cute and functional, here are the items that every parent will want when they put their baby in the water. If you were looking to find cute swimwear, check out these swim trunks or these baby swimsuits.

baby beach rashguard

A baby rash guard is used for many reasons, but the main reason is to protect your baby from the sun.

Swim diapers are needed when you decide to put your baby in the water. These are reusable and work very well.

little swimmers swim diaper

If you don’t want to use a reusable swim diaper, these come in handy. They do not hold in pee, so put it on while at the beach.

Shade

A beach is a place for kids to play, parents to relax, and both to have a great time while enjoying the sand and the waves. Intermittent of the play, you should have a safe cozy place for your baby to take a break or a nap. Here are a few options to give you and your baby the most comfort at the beach.

DONT GET: Those tents that have all these moving parts that make it impossible to put together in a decent amount of time. Remember, you are only at the beach for a short time, don’t waste it fiddling with a stupid tent, in the wind, with a baby running around.

baby beach tent

A beach tent is great for you and your baby to share, as it has an outer lounge area to fit your beach chairs.

baby beach umbrella

If you like the idea of your baby playing in the sand while in the shade, then this beach umbrella is perfect for you.

I caved and bought this canopy, and I love it! It is only 8ft so you will have to duck, but for the beach its perfect.

Eating

You should always have something to eat while at the beach. Not only for your baby but keep some snacks in there for you and your spouse! A snack always makes everyone happy. Check out the snacks I always keep in my Diaper Bag. Here are a few items that make it easy to feed your baby while at the beach.

GREAT SNACK OPTIONS:

  • Any pre-cut fruit like watermelon, blueberries, strawberries, pineapple, cantaloupe, you name it.
  • Hawaiian Roll sandwiches
  • Squeeze pouches
  • Pretzels & Hummus
yeti cooler

A small beach cooler, especially the coveted Yeti brand. I like to put in frozen water bottles instead of ice.

baby beach chair

This travel chair folds up into a holder and my baby loves sitting in it away from the sand while she’s eating.

baby bibs

Silicone baby bibs are a must for just everyday use, but at the beach they work great to keep food off their bathingsuits!

Parent Supplies

To each parent, this list may vary. These are the items I like to bring to the beach to make it more enjoyable for me and my husband. Mind you, my husband is very simple and hates to travel with anything other than the absolutely necessary items. With that said, he will always choose to bring the wagon and speakers. And he always sits in my chair! haha

Beach chairs are the best. Especially with backpack straps, pockets & coolers in the back of it.

bose bluetooth speaker

This bose speaker is splash-proof and works on a Bluetooth connection. We love the design and sound quality.

wagon

A must-have! A foldable utility wagon with shade cover to carry all your baby beach stuff and baby!

Baby Beach Toys

The beach is such a fun place for a baby just as it is, but at this stage, they want to explore. A safe way for them to do so is with toys that help manipulate the sand and water.

Rakes, buckets, sifters, etc. can really expand the possibilities for your child. Remember to pack things that can be compacted while in travel to avoid the added stress of “carrying more stuff”.

baby 10 piece sand toys

A simple set of sand toys for your baby to explore without much parental guidance.

baby beach toys

These toys are more toward building and having the parent interact.

beach toy bag

This bag stores perfectly, and is huge. We love it for the end-of-the-day quick cleanup.

Baby Beach Extras

These items are just little extras I keep. I like using the portable fan if there isn’t enough ventilation when my baby is napping in the tent. The sunglasses are super cute and they just bring it up a notch when taking pictures. Which only lasts a few seconds! Lastly, hand sanitizer is always a good idea.

portable fan

I like to have this in my tent, or attached to the wagon when my baby is napping in it.

When the day is done, you can take your child out of their swimsuits and into this towel.

This stuff is pure MAGIC! Dust some anywhere there is sand on your baby, and it’s gone.

Baby Beach Hacks

Being a mom myself, and seeing others either succeed or struggle with their beach trips, I have found a few items that I consider hacks for the best beach day.

I have these on my wagon and hang my bags on them like my toy bag, beach tent, and cooler. It saves so much space inside the wagon.

Have you ever stumbled across something so cool at the beach, like an animal, plant, or shell, but didn’t know the name of it? Consider bringing this book to look it up!

My friends like to bring a sheet to lay on the hot sand, but this sarong offers many options like added shade when clipped onto your tent, umbrella, or wagon. It is so lightweight you won’t even notice it when it’s packed up, or you can even wear it to the beach as your cover-up.

This bag holds everything! All the towels, blankets, speaker, sunscreens, clothes, you name it! I clip it onto the back of my wagon, and when we get to the beach I put it next to my chair. This ensures no loose items hit the sand or get lost. The opening is the width of the bag so I don’t have to go digging for anything.

Bonus: For the Boat

We like to go boating, and I have been asked plenty of times what to pack for my baby. Here are the few items I pack specifically for boating with my baby. You can also use your discretion to pack the other items on this list, especially the sun protection section!

muslin blankets

Muslin blankets have so many uses. Cover your baby from the wind or sun. We like to wet it and put it on the baby’s legs to keep them cool.

baby life jacket

A life jacket is 100% necessary for boating with a baby. Never take it off unless you need to change their diaper or reapply sunscreen.

beach bag

My boat bag helps you easily store and grab items. I prefer mesh bags with separated pockets for ease of access and quick visibility.
