How to download free fonts from Google and Dafont.com

Do you ever go on Pinterest and see a list of fonts, but don’t know how to get them on your computer? well, you are not alone. Not to worry, downloading fonts onto your computer is simple. Once you know how to download fonts, you will find how easy it is to just google a font name, see a trusted website, and download for personal use. 

Please note – If you are intending on selling any products to make a profit with these fonts, to always read the fine print. You may need to consider purchasing the rights to the font before downloading for consumption. And, always make sure you are downloading fonts from a secured site. 

With that said, here is how you can download fonts from Google Fonts, and DaFont.com

Download Fonts from Google:

STEP 1

Go to https://fonts.google.com/ and select a font from the list provided, or you can search the name. There are other options as well, including categories, language, and properties like the number of styles or thickness.

You can also use the SENTENCE feature to see a preview of what your typography will look like with the font options.

STEP 2

Click on the name of the font you want to download. From there a new page will load with all the font options, license information, pairings, glyphs and about the font. Again, you can also preview your typography in the “Type here to preview text” textbox.

You can select to download family by clicking on the “Download Family” button, or an individual style by clicking on the “+ Select this style” option.

STEP 3

Once you click on your download option from step 2, you will open your “downloads” folder on your computer. Then, find and open the Folder with the Font’s name on it. 

When a list of files appears, you will need to click on every TrueType font file to download each style. Or you can also highlight all by dragging your mouse or typing (CTRL + A), right-click and select “Open”.

STEP 4

If you open all the files at once, a few popups will appear with the options to “Print” or “Install”. Select “install”. 

When the font is done installing, the “install” button will grey out. This indicates your font is now installed on your computer and you can exit out of that popup. Once all of your font styles are installed, you can delete the Font folder from your downloads folder.

Download Fonts from DaFont.com:

STEP 1

Go to https://www.dafont.com/ and select a font from the list provided, or search the font name. There are also tons of categories you can click on to help you narrow down your font options. 

You can also use the preview feature to see what your typography will look like with the font options.

STEP 2

Once you find the font you want to download, by either using the search bar or the categories listed, you will then click on the download button next to your font. The name of the font is in the red bar above the preview and will be the name of your file.

After you click on the download button, the font folder will by in your downloads folder on your computer.

STEP 3

Once you click on your download option from step 2, you will open your “downloads” folder on your computer. You will see a folder with your font’s name on it. Open the Folder to see the list of files.
