How to throw a Toy Story birthday party

Toy Story is a wonderful birthday party theme because it is both nostalgic for the 90’s crowd, and such a fun series for young kids. If you are looking to throw a toy story birthday party for your little one (or in this case, 2), check out some of the unique ideas at this party.

The Details

A Toy Story party can be very simple if you stick with the primary colors, Yellow, blue, and red. Not everything has to be specifically Toy Story themed. For example, plain balloons and primary colored table cloths accent the Toy  Story decorations perfectly.

Woody's Lockup

After building the lemonade stand, my friend’s mother cut and painted cardboard to look like wood. Cardboard was also used to make the sheriff’s star and signed. She spray-painted wooden dowels to mimic the jail bars. Then attached everything to the front of the lemonade stand. The goal for this prop is to look like a child made it, hence the funky font and cute drawing her grandson painted.

She  built the base of this structure out of two small wood crates, some 1x1s, and a piece of wood for the top. Here is a video below for a similar look.

Table Decorations

Keeping with the theme of bright colors, the tables had sprinklings of various objects that link back to toystory, like the famous ball as a pinata and of course, Mr. Potato Head!

The Birthday Cake

A simple white sheet cake can be spruced up with little toy story figurines and a cake topper! There were also blue custom smash cakes with white clouds on them.

She thrifted the cute toy story figurines and I can’t find them anywhere! I found these figurines that look similar here.

Toy Story backdrop

We used a backdrop and balloon set from Amazon, a banner stand, and these clamps for the carnival backdrop.

With the 9″ balloons, we love the look of it. The balloons are from Amazon and we used this electric balloon pump to blow them up. There is a special balloon arch strip that can make a balloon arch a simple and fun project.

moving Boxes as Centerpieces

For the centerpieces, my friend’s mom make miniaturized moving boxes to represent each of the boy’s rooms. She then filled each box with green crinkle paper and stuffed the toy story inserts inside. How cute is this! Remember to write your R’s backward!

Don't Worry, There's More!

DIY Rocket Pinata

Once again, my friend’s mom pulled off another incredible pinata. It stood up well against the kids and fit so perfectly with the theme!

DIY mini Pizza Planet boxes with gummy pizzas

Just get some gummy pizzas, white mini pizza boxes. Find the Pizza Planet logo.

Copy and paste it on Microsoft Word to the correct size. Make as many copies as needed. Then print, cut to shape, and glue it to the mini pizza box. The kids will love it, but adults might like the nostalgia of the gummy pizza just a bit more!
