Tutti Frutti Birthday Party

How to Decorate Creative Vibrant Colorful Tutti Frutti Party

I threw my daughter a Tutti Frutti themed birthday party!

Take look at the cute DIY Tutti Frutti decor for my daughter’s second birthday party! I love how everything came together. I love creating pieces and finding inspiration from Pinterest and other moms. I hope this inspires you to try to DIY your next big event! I have included links to the original crafters, so you can purchase their products.

The Splash Zone

Since my daughter’s birthday is in the middle of summer, we always go with a water element for the kids. This year we chose a splash pad and for the big kids. The little ones had their own pool and interactive water table. To stick with the Tutti Frutti theme, we purchased a watermelon and bright blow up pools.

The Cake

I made the tutti frutti cake topper with my Cricut and cardstock. I baked a simple Funfetti cake box that fit three tiers using a 6-inch cake pan. I attempted the ombre look and I like it, but it could have been better. It definitely takes practice to get the look.

Fruit Loop rice crispies

My friend’s mother recreated this version of rice crispy treats. Instead of trying to cut them into squares, she rolled them into balls, placed each on a cupcake liner, stuck a cake pop stick in the middle. She then wrapped them in cellophane and tied them with a bow. See the Fruit Loop Marshmallow Treats Here. The treats were very cute, but I think the rainbow rice crispies would have worked better.

CUPCAKES

We purchased cupcakes from Sam’s Club. You can order them up to 48 hours in advance and customize the frosting color and even the sprinkles! The mini banner was made out of different colors of neon poster boards from the dollar store. I then stringed thread through and taped every third triangle to the actual cupcake tower.

I made the tutti frutti cupcake toppers with my Cricut. You will need construction paper, double-sided tape, glue, and toothpicks. I have provided a PDF template to the toppers, which includes the list of paper colors, and dimensions that you can download for free.

Pineapple Salsa

I found the original recipe on Pinterest, but I have made some tweaks to make it my own if you want to check it out. I cut the pineapple in half and used it as a salsa bowl for both flavor, decor, and less food waste!

Orange Fruit Cups

Again, I found this idea on Pinterest. I cut an orange in half and carefully removed the slices. I added kiwi, grapes, mango, and orange slices to add as a side for the main meal.

Decorations

It was so fun finding these tutti frutti decoration ideas on Pinterest and making them my own. They are easy enough to make if you spread out your time to make sure you don’t go insane with the amount of time it takes to create.

diy fruit stand

We created a “Fruit Stand” that housed the water toys and a plastic strawberry water jug the kids could access on their own. The sign was made using foam board and neon poster boards from the dollar store. I cut the letters using my Cricut. The Fruit balloons came in a pack and were attached to the stand with balloon sticks.

My friend’s mom actually built this stand out of two crates, some 1x1s, and a piece of wood for the top. See the video below for a similar look. She created this stand for a Carnival Themed Birthday Party

Giant Fruit

When I first saw this concept I thought it was the coolest thing! I had already created the paper fruit templates on my Cricut, so it was really just small tweaks and enhancing the sizes.

I found all the styrofoam balls at Joann’s

  • 12 inch hollow half dome for the watermelon.
  • 10 inch hollow half dome for the orange
  • 8-inch ball cut in half for 2 slices of kiwi
  • 6-inch ball cut in thirds to make 4 lemon wedges
  • 5-inch ball cut in thirds to make 4 lime wedges
  • A pack of 6 – 3 inch balls for the grapes

DIY Food Table Canopy

After watching many youtube tutorials, my mother-in-law, who is an excellent seamstress, and I threw this canopy together. We purchased the fabric from Joann Fabrics, and the wood was just extra pieces from my husband’s construction project.

This is one of the more informational videos I found on Youtube to help give me an idea on how to make this canopy.

Simple Backdrop

We used a backdrop from amazon, a banner stand, and these clamps for the simple pink backdrop. With the 9″ balloons, we love the look of it. The balloons are from amazon and we used this electric balloon pump to blow them up. There is a special balloon arch strip to make this balloon arch a simple and fun project.

The tutti frutti banner was made using my Cricut and construction paper. If you would like to purchase this banner, please go to this Etsy shop that inspired my decor.

Fruit Pinatas

We purchased two small pinatas at the dollar store for $5.00 each. One was reserved for the “big kids” and the other was for the “little kids”. The thought behind this decision is to let the big kids who want to hit the pinata go first. This way, they would have their toys (we don’t do candy) while the littles took their time to discover their pinata. Both pinatas had the exact same fillers so there was no jealousy or upset kids.

The two-year-olds did not want to hit their fruit pinata, but they had a blast putting their hands in the pinata to grab their prizes.

The beauty of having small toys in the pinatas versus candy, and we did not expect this to happen, but all the kids dumped their goodie bags into one big pile to play with the toys together. It was so sweet. Here are the toys we purchased from Amazon to fill the pinatas

Pinata Goodie Bags

One fun idea we had was to have the kids decorate their own goodie bags while the adults were setting up the pinata. The kids loved it and showing off their artistic skills to their parents. The white goodie bags were also a lot less expensive than others I found. I was able to purchase a larger pack with the plan to use them for coloring at parties in the future.
